This Sunday 25 March come along to Maribyrnong’s Family Bike Day and hear all about the council's current…
Cycle Salute opens the cycling season with an inaugural program of 50+ cycle-centric events, peddling bikey banter, record-breaking feats, quirky wheels, flat-chat challenges and plain old pedal-pushing fun in Victoria’s High Country. We’ll be checking out the events in Beechwroth, Yackandah, Bright and Porepunkah this weekend but there’s heaps of events in other towns.
Set under wide open skies and among fertile valleys and breathtaking mountains, Cycle Salute events range from bike skills rodeos for little legs to show-and-shine parades, from beat-the-brewer road races to trailblazing MTB weekends, from unicycling hoopla to rides for the hungry cyclist. BYO beloved treadlie or hire from one of the region’s several cycling hubs.
As well as one-off events, shuttle buses ($15 – $35pp) can be booked if you want to ride a section of more than 250km of safe, scenic, off-road rail trails. Explore the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail (connecting Wangaratta with Beechworth, Milawa and Bright), Great Victorian Rail Trail (between Mansfield and Yarck) and High Country Rail Trail (between Wodonga and Old Tallangatta).
Victoria’s High Country is one of the best places to cycle if you’re a cycling gastronome as well! The area is famous for its food, wine and craft beer worth – you canride behind-the-scenes with local bike-hugging winemakers and foodies on velo-and-vino and bread-and-butter tours.
