Our models and their bikes caused quite a stir at Melbourne’s Southbank when they turned up looking so cycle chic and glamorous.

This cool guy looks like he’s in a magazine advertisement – but he’s just doing his thing, cycling on the Danube Canal.
At CycleStyle we’re passionate about getting more people using bikes as a mode of transport.
We know that bikes make life better. And we want to share the ease, convenience and joys of bike-riding with everyone – male, female, young, old.
So we’ve entered the Suncorp Bank Helping Hand competition to have the opportunity to receive a $5000 small business grant by sharing our best business tip.
While we think our business tip is pretty good (and the key to everything we do), more importantly what will we do with $5000? We will help 30 adults around Australia to learn to ride a bike for the first time or to refresh their bike skills.
Do you know someone who might benefit from our helping hand?
- Maybe you didn’t learn to ride a bike when you were young and now you feel you’re too old to learn.
- Maybe you’re a mum who hasn’t been a bike since you had kids. Now your kids are cycling but you don’t feel confident on a bike anymore – so you’re missing out on the fun.
- Maybe you’d like to take up bike commuting to save money and as an easy way to get fit, but feel unsure on the roads.
- Maybe you haven’t been on a bike since you were a kid but now all your friends are cycling and you’re the only one who doesn’t. And you don’t want to look silly wobbling around the streets.
- Maybe you’re retired and haven’t been on a bike since your 20s but now you want to go on a biking holiday through Europe (like my Mum! ^Joyce).

Our favourite English claymation characters Wallace and Gromit are in Melbourne for a cracking exhibition at Scienceworks.
If you haven’t been to Scienceworks since you were in school, now is the time to go – it’s fun for young and old and the exhibition celebrates inventiveness and innovation.
Interspersed with the very cool Wallace and Gromit displays is really interesting information about many Australian inventions such as plastic money, the Victa lawn mower and Melbourne’s very own ByK kids bike.
A child’s bike is not simply an adult bike made small. Adult bicycles are made with speed and comfort in mind, while for a child ease and stability are more important. So Warren Key redesigned his kids bike with a lower frame (lower centre of gravity), larger wheels and lighter components (easier to push).
It’s great to see Australian inventiveness celebrated as part of a world-class touring exhibition!

We have a thing for duffle coats. Must be our fond memories of wearing a chic navy duffle coat to school in winter.
So duffle coats and bikes make up stop for a second look. Especially a bright red coat paired with patterned tights and a megawatt smile. Almost puts her beautiful green bike in the shade.

Nina certainly turned a few heads when she cycled from Thornbury to the Melbourne CBD with her bike garlanded with flowers. Cycle chic indeed!
She has four different bells and hooters on her handlebars as “people are more likely to get out of the way if they think there’s four bikes coming instead of just one bike!”
Nina completes her eye-catching ensemble with a suede horse-riding helmet. Not technically Australian standard compliant but very stylish.
