Frocks on Bikes is the gathering point for stylish lady cyclists in New Zealand – they organise rides, events and shows for ‘sustainably-minded, funky women to celebrate biking beauty’.
At the Northside Ladies Bicycle Calendar 2011 calendar launch I was handed a flyer telling me that the sassy and stylish NZ cycling phenomenon is coming to Melbourne, with the inaugural picnic ride in January 2011.
Here are some photos featuring the organising committee behind Frocks on Bikes Melbourne – frilly handbags, a retro-styled floral dress from Dangerfield and a cute Red Riding Hood rain jacket.

The Coolist, a design and lifestyle blog, have compiled a list of 10 amazing bikes of the future.
We think the Artikcar by Ben Wilson is simply adorable.
And if you’re in Melbourne, check out what’s happening at the Melbourne Bikefest. Today’s theme is is all about bikes and design, including the forum today entitled Tomorrow’s Bikes: New Directions, presented by Design Victoria.
We have a bit of a thing of Korean film stars. In fact, we once sat through a very long and boring mockumentary called The Actresses just because it featured five beautiful Korean actresses.
So we love the look book for Korean label Mind bridge, featuring Korean actors Gong Yoo and Lee Min Jung. Yes to preppy slim-cut blazers and cropped chinos!
Even better, tere’s the stylish, smiling and sunny behind-the-scenes video of the photoshoot.
There was no way we were going to miss the opening party of Melbourne Bikefest, Melbourne’s celebration all things bike-related for the next 4 days based at 1000 £ Bend (note that CycleStyle is also a sponsor of Bikefest, but even if this wasn’t the case this is so our thing).
Bike valet parking – a great idea thanks to Crumpler for when you have that many bikes all congregating in one place. Look how many more bikes you can fit in the same space in a carpark. Take note, city councils!
Crazy bike riding antics in the carpark!
Hear a story and/or share your story about your experience with bikes at Bike Story. Stories collected at Bikefest will be posted at the conclusion of the festival.
Some of CycleStyle‘s products on display (and for sale) in the Bike Shop – colourful bells and skirt garters.
More Cyclestyle goodness – La Pomme French bike satchel, Disco-bright reflective legwarmers, Ocean flower helmet and all sized bags from Po Campo for fitting on your bike.
The Bike Shop also have stocks of Outlier pants, I love cycling T-shirts, Pageant Queen reflective sashes, our most popular wicker baskets and a selection Kitsch Kitchen panniers – if you can’t see them on display ask the friendly store staff for them.
This is your chance to see, touch, try stuff on and save on shipping for those purchases you’ve been coveting from our store :–)
Two of our VIP guests for the evening, Cheryl from Business Chic and Kealey from Thelma Magazine.
Cute Bikefest badges – love the presentation too, using an old wheel. Might even borrow that idea for ourselves…
There is so much more stuff happening in the next 4 days that we can’t list or describe them all here – so why not go check out the program for yourself. To read an interview with Pip Carroll, the director of Melbourne Bikefest, click here.

While Helsinki is experiencing mere hours of sunlight and masses of snow at the moment, we here in the Southern Hemisphere can take inspiration from this stylish cyclist in the Helsinki summer.
We just love the finished photos from our Spring/Summer editorial and we hope you do too.
We also thought you might be interested in seeing some of the behind-the-scenes shots that we snapped of Jono and Marianne at work.
These guys deserve big kudos for their professionalism and positive can-do attitudes. Shooting on location can be pretty tough – being out of a studio environment means that you can’t control things like wind, glare, cold and sand. Goodness knows how Marianne manages to look glamorous in all conditions!
