Matching outfit to bike – Swanston Street

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

In the 50s and 60s, proper young ladies were instructed to never to leave the house without matching gloves, hat and shoes.

Now, we love seeing how cyclists match their outfit to their ride. This girl has given herself a red, white and blue theme – red step-through frame, red scarf, red and blue check coat, red and blue Crumpler messenger bag, topped and tailed with a white helmet and white shoes. Love it.

Colour in a sea of black – Swanston Street

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Melburnians love their black outfits, especially in winter. Standing on Swanston Street, I despaired of finding any cyclists who weren’t wearing head-to-toe black fleece or lycra.

Then this adorable girl came into view with her pink bike, bright blue pants and green scarf. She gave me a fleeting glimpse of colour in a sea of black while she waited for the tram passengers to alight.

And off she goes!

Our stylish cycling party guests

Friday, May 28th, 2010

We had our launch party recently at the Eco Fashionista showroom in Fitzroy and of course it was the perfect opportunity to snap some photos of some of our cycle chic guests.

Maria looking very excited with her little box containing a red velvet cupcake from the Cupcake Bakery – a little thank you gift from us. Love the bright red shoes, Maria!

No stopping you say? Not if you’re on a bike. Jenny Jiang who runs Melbourne Op Shop Tours wears a classic casual cycling look of skinny jeans and boots (we looove these soft leather lace ups). Fab tartan body bag too. Wonder if she picked it up from an op shop?

Twins on Church Street, Richmond

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

It seems that Richmond on a Sunday is not the best place to be spotting for cycle style – many people are heading to the Yarra Trail for a family ride or gunning the bike paths for exercise.

I did manage to spot these guys though. Love the hardware on her boots! And of course, the perfectly matched pose. You know that old saying – a couple that cycles together stays together icon smile Twins on Church Street, Richmond

Collins St, 1pm

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

In a little homage to John Brack’s iconic work Collins St, 5pm, today we’re presenting you with Collins St, 1pm – as snapped by CycleStyle.

Blue and yellow, yellow and blue

We love the red helmet, red gloves and the long red scarf (careful in the spokes!) and the blond hair streaming in the sun.

Making a lunch date perhaps? Check out the blue rims and the leather saddle on her ride, which matches the block colours of her outfit and schoolyard leather satchel perfectly. Oh, and we have a real weakness for duffle coats.

More bold, primary colours. Notice how her yellow helmet matches her back wheel hub? Although we’re not sure how comfortable it would be to carrying two swinging shoulder bags like that.

Thigh-high red socks rock!

DSC02937v1 Thigh high red socks rock!

We spotted a flash of red legs riding up Brunswick Street, Fitzroy and literally chased them down all the way to Parliament before waylaying Karen for a photo.

How can you not love this look??

Thigh-high red ribbed wool socks, a little peekaboo of skin, a brown mini skirt and all topped with a glorious purple coat (it’s turned out blue in the quick snap we took, but we assure you it was a regal purple). Finished with simple black ballet flats, a brown leather schoolyard satchel and a funky decorated bike frame.

The best thing – Karen was riding to work. Yes, that’s right, apparently in government departments you can get away with wearing sexy long socks to the office!
