Nothing says summer more than nautical stripes, sandals and a brightly coloured bike. We can tell she’s enjoying the breeze by the bay in San Francisco.

Don’t forget that this Sunday 4 September is Fathers’ Day!
To get you in the mood, check out the inspiring collection of photos and stories of Dads on Wheels, a collaborative salute to dads who bike with their kids by Bikes and the City and Bike NOPA, both blogs out of San Francisco.

Brrr cold weather is definitely pie weather, which makes us wish that Bike Basket Pies were able to deliver pies to our door!
Bike Basket Pies is a one-woman pie baking and delivery service based in San Francisco. Natalie Galatzer sources seasonal ingredients locally and organic where possible to make her ever-changing pie menu (tummy rumble for the shaker orange pie) and delivers the cupcake-sized goodies on her bike.

We particularly love her ‘About’ page which asks ‘Why by bike basket?’
Natalie was introduced to big city biking when she moved to San Francisco, and is totally addicted. Plus riding a bike is a low cost (and no pollution!) way to get around town. Way faster than the 12, or the 27, or the 26, or the 14, but maybe not faster than the BART. So she bakes and bikes and is pretty happy. She just wishes the amount of calories she burned while delivering pies was equal or greater than the amount she gains while taste testing pies. (I guess not everything is perfect in this world).

The 2010 San Francisco Bicycle Expo included a cycle chic parade called Pedal Savvy. Bike blog Cyclelicious was there to capture the action – the slide show features all sorts of cool gear, including Nutcase helmets, Dashing Tweeds reflective legwarmers and Po Campo’s handlebar clutch.
Pedal Savvy also produced their own slick and funky video of the event.

San Francisco company Cordarounds have come up with the perfect bike-to-boardroom (although probably more like coffee, a movie, a picnic) clothing option.
The Cordarounds Bike to Work pants are khakis with little hidden reflective parts – the insides of the pockets and pant cuffs.
Good for our dark, wintery nights now.

So we’ve been dreaming up business ideas with our friend J, who is a great cook, and about how she could start delivering some of her delicious Vietnamese food to busy office workers and people who don’t know too much about Vietnamese food but want to access something healthy and tasty for lunch.
We’ve been encouraging this idea as we love her food. But also because we think she could run her delivery service by bike!
There are not too many “entrepedalers” in Melbourne that we know of, but they are on the rise in bike-friendly San Francisco. In this fab article from the San Franciso Bicycle Coalition we learnt about a pie, banh mi, sandwich, curry and even creme brulee bike delivery service!
Even more interesting is that these entrepedalers often use social media to reach out their customers. Most use Twitter to alert people as to their location, much like the Beatbox Kitchen (which is a truck, not a bike).
With Melbourne being pretty flat and full of tech-savvy foodies, we’re hoping someone will bring us a creme brulee on a bike soon.
