It’s pretty chilly today and we have soup on our mind.
SoupCycle is a soup subscription service based in Portland, Oregon. They’re unique because they deliver your hot, steaming soup selection (along with rustic bread or a mixed green salad) via bike. The soups are made from organic, locally sourced ingredients – we particularly like the sound of Barbecue Split Pea and Brazilian Black Bean.
So, who’s going to start SoupCycle Australia and bring us some soup?
We love these wooden bike crates inspired by classic milk crates from Macpherson Crate Company.
Based in Vancouver, Canada, Macpherson Crate Company makes high quality and weather resistant teak crates using wood imported from a sustainable teak farm located on the island of Java in Indonesia.
Teak is well know for its durability and is most often used in outdoor furniture. It holds its shape in differing and extreme weather conditions.
Sadly we can’t import these lovely crates without a whole lot of hassle from Australian Customs and Quarantine, so we’ll just have to admire the pretty pictures.
We’re back for the winter edition of the Melbourne Design Marketwith our friends Jellybean Bikes (www.jellybeanbikes.com.au) this Sunday 27 July 10-5pm.
It’s been one of the chilliest winters we’ve experienced in a while so for these markets we’ll be bringing along some of our fabulous reversible capes, waterproof trenchcoats, reflective gloves and legwarmers and gloves, gloves, gloves!
If you’ve never been to the market you’ll find an ever-inspiring, ever-tempting array of great design stalls, cool grooves, coffee and happy crowds. For more information about the market go to www.melbournedesignmarket.com.au
See you next Sunday 27 July 10-5pm at the Federation Square undercover carpark.
REEL transforms your bike frame into a storage compartment using silicon stickers and an elastic band.
Great idea, though it does make the bike look like it’s coming home bandaged up from bike hospital.

Let’s Go Ride a Bike is one of our favourite bike blogs, not least because Dottie sports a Nutcase Love Helmet!
We love the idea of using forgotten spaces to create bicycle parking facilities.
By MANIFESTO Architecture P.C.
“The Bike Hanger is an essential facility for the city of Seoul which aims to increase its bicycle-friendliness. The facility is not only low-maintenance and environmentally friendly, but by being installed in between buildings it takes advantage of many of the underutilized spaces that exist around the city. Each Hanger is able to store between 20-36 bicycles and it is easily attached to the sides of buildings, allowing minimal interference with the pedestrian traffic below.”
The design was shortlisted for Seoul International Design Competition: Design for All and Seoul Cycle Design Competition 2010.
Have you ever forgotten your bike lock and had to ride all the way home to retrieve it (or take the risk in leaving your bike unlocked)?
This futuristic looking bike by Ronen Spector has a frame which doubles as a lock – and if the lock is broken or damaged then the bike can’t be ridden away, foiling would-be thieves.

We often like to take photos of cyclist riding against the backdrop of the Melbourne tram. Here’s a Portuguese variation of the same image – a stylish lady cyclist in Lisbon with a bright yellow tram in the background.
Love this cyclist’s plaid boots and matching plaid satchel – not to mention her stylish winter cycling ensemble.
Love this sleek, shiny town bike by Yorkshire’s detail Design Agency, especially the watch mount!

Seems that black hair accessories are the way to most chic way to keep your hair neat on your bike.

In NYC Sephora launched the Big Pink Bow fragrance with Hello Kitty bicycles along with lots of models in pink tulle skits and Hello Kitty herself. Super cute!
One of our favourite magazines is Peppermint, a green fashion and lifestyle magazine celebrating eco and ethical style with a fun, fresh, intelligent and positive spin.
Imagine our delight when a recent issue featured a chic cyclist on the cover. Not just any cyclist, but a blooming, pregnant Stacey from the wonderful vegetarian/craft/general loveliness blog Veggie Mama.
Over at Veggie Mama this week we are giving away a Kids Wicker Basket. The baskets are made from treated wicker by workers in Poland and are cute as a button. Plus they slip on and off the handlebars easily which means that when your little one arrives at their destination they can carry their own gear – whether it be their lunchbox, their book or their ball.
Feel free to enter the competition but do make sure you sit down with a cup of tea and take some time to dip into the wonderful world of Veggie Mama.
